Mayor officially opens new Trowbridge development
A new housing development in Trowbridge has officially opened and is already delivering benefits for the local community.
The Mayor of Trowbridge, Cllr Stewart Palmen, cut the ribbon at Lambrok Mead on Frome Road, joined by representatives from Newland Homes and St James Trust, whose sale of the land for redevelopment has enabled the charity to increase the grants it provides to organisations in Trowbridge and the surrounding area.
Over the last two years, St James Trust has increased its grant-giving, awarding more than £100,000 to organisations supporting people in need, hardship or distress. Beneficiaries range from hospices and counselling services to youth bands and day centres.
Richard Westwood from St James Trust said, “It was wonderful to come together with the Mayor and Newland Homes to celebrate the opening of Lambrok Mead. The sale of the land has enabled the Trust to invest for the future, generating additional income to support charities making a real difference across Trowbridge. Lambrok Mead demonstrates how building new homes can create a positive legacy that reaches far beyond those who live in them.”
Fifty zero-carbon homes are being delivered at Lambrok Mead, each designed to help residents reduce their energy use, bills and carbon footprint through a range of highly efficient renewable energy features. Air source heat pumps, combined with high levels of insulation and solar panels, mean these homes are ‘A’ rated for both energy efficiency and environmental impact, surpassing current building standards.
Over a full year, a sample of Newland homeowners heated and powered their three or four-bedroom detached homes for between £12 and £16 a week. By comparison, Rightmove estimates that equivalent three and four-bedroom detached homes with an EPC ‘D’ rating cost between £52 and £65 a week to heat and power.
Chris Parker, Head of Marketing for Newland Homes, said, “It is lovely to see a new community taking shape in a way that brings benefits to so many people. Local charities are receiving more support and the people moving here will have comfortable homes that use less energy and help keep bills down. Now that our doors are officially open, we look forward to welcoming more people to come and discover everything that Lambrok Mead has to offer.”
