Goughs Solicitors has announced the continued expansion of its private client team with the addition of three experienced legal professionals: Tom Gauterin (Legal Director), Niamh Lewis (Senior Associate), and Ashley Wood (Associate).

This strategic growth reinforces Goughs’ position as a leading private wealth and complex family advisory firm for high net worth individuals, families, landowners and business owners across Wiltshire, Bath, Somerset and the Cotswolds.

Building on a long-established reputation in core legal services, Goughs is further enhancing its specialist capability in private wealth planning, ensuring clients benefit from a truly joined-up, multi-disciplinary approach across tax, property, corporate and private client law.

Strengthening private wealth expertise

The expansion reflects Goughs’ commitment to supporting clients with increasingly complex financial, family and succession matters, including:

  • Estate and succession planning
  • Estate administration and contentious estate issues
  • Tax mitigation and structuring (supported by in-house tax expertise)
  • Trust creation and administration
  • Family Investment Companies (FICs)
  • Pre- and post-nuptial agreements
  • Corporate and ownership structures for private wealth

By integrating expertise across teams, Goughs ensures clients receive cohesive advice that reflects both personal and commercial priorities.

Tom Gauterin joined Goughs as Legal Director in February this year, bringing nearly two decades of post-qualification experience and dual qualification as a solicitor and Chartered Tax Adviser.

Tom specialises in tax and estate planning for individuals and families whose personal and business interests are closely connected. His expertise spans inheritance tax, capital gains tax, income tax, and stamp duty land tax, as well as complex succession planning, family investment structures, and cross-border estate arrangements.

Having worked at leading firms including Smith & Williamson, Taylor Wessing, and Burges Salmon, Tom has advised high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients across the UK and internationally.

He said, “What stands out at Goughs is the strength of the private client team and the way it works seamlessly across tax, corporate and property. That joined-up approach, combined with the firm’s long-standing experience advising families, landowners and business owners, creates a genuinely distinctive offering for clients seeking clear, practical and long-term support.”

Alongside this, Niamh joins Goughs as Senior Associate within the private client team, bringing more than 10 years’ experience in estate administration, wills, and lasting powers of attorney.

She advises executors, beneficiaries, and charities on all aspects of estate administration, providing clear, pragmatic and compassionate support during often sensitive and complex periods.

Ashley joins Goughs as an Associate Solicitor, with over four years’ experience in private client law.

His work includes wills, estate administration, lasting powers of attorney, trusts, and inheritance tax planning. Ashley supports a broad client base, including executors, attorneys, families and high net worth individuals.

Ashley takes a tailored and client-focused approach, ensuring legal advice is clear, accessible, and aligned to each client’s personal circumstances and preferences.

The firm said the expansion of the private client team reflects its continued investment in specialist expertise and senior talent, strengthening its ability to support clients with long-term wealth protection, legacy planning, and intergenerational structuring.
