Breakfast, networking and economic optimism with South West Business Finance
South West Business Finance is inviting guests to an exclusive Economic Briefing Seminar, taking a look at the state of the UK’s economy.
Mark Berrisford-Smith, independent economist and former Head of Economics for HSBC UK Commercial Banking, will be hosting the seminar which takes place on Thursday 9th October at Cumberwell Park near Bradford on Avon.
The event will start with a relaxed breakfast and networking from 9am-10am, before Mark offers his views on the forces shaping the UK and global economy – and perhaps a few reasons to feel cautiously optimistic.
From President Trump’s trade policies to the UK’s sluggish growth, this autumn’s Budget to falling fuel prices, Mark will explore the risks ahead and the opportunities we might be overlooking, including how our own pessimism could be the biggest obstacle to recovery.
Dan Smith, Managing Director at South West Business Finance, said, “Consumers and businesses are feeling grumpy and gloomy; President Trump is upending the global economic system; the UK’s economy is barely growing, and the Government is in a deep fiscal hole. Even as some of the uncertainty about US tariffs starts to clear, attention is now firmly focused on this autumn’s Budget and the tax rises which are expected.
“While economists have a long and justified reputation for doom-mongering, Mark Berrisford-Smith will do his best to find some grounds for cautious optimism. Just to offer a few teasers, interest rates have further to fall, while developments in oil markets suggest that fuel prices are more likely to fall than rise.
“Mark’s message is that while there are plenty of dangers, whether from geopolitics, the bond markets, or persistent inflation, the biggest impediment to a sustained economic revival is us, and in particular our ingrained pessimism.”
This free-to-attend event is your opportunity to gain valuable insights, ask questions, and connect with peers in a welcoming environment.
