South West Business Finance’s economic briefing returns to Wiltshire
Business leaders and professionals are invited to South West Business Finance‘s annual Economic Briefing Seminar, being held at Cumberwell Park, Wiltshire, on Thursday 15th October.
Back by popular demand, the event will feature independent economist and former Head of Economics for HSBC UK Commercial Banking, Mark Berrisford-Smith, who will share his views on the key issues shaping the UK and global economy as businesses look ahead to 2026.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast and networking before hearing Mark’s analysis of the economic landscape and the factors likely to influence business confidence, investment and growth over the coming year.
The seminar, titled Economic Crossroads 2026: Markets, Government and Global Uncertainty, will examine two major issues expected to dominate the economic agenda during the closing months of 2026: the prospect of a meaningful peace agreement between the United States and Iran, and the impact of economic and fiscal policy changes under a new government led by Andy Burnham.
Mark will explore how the conflict in the Middle East has affected commodity prices and inflation, as well as the consequences for interest rates, consumer confidence and spending. He will also discuss the extent to which commodity markets may return to pre-war conditions and what this could mean for future Bank of England decisions.
The briefing will also consider the policy direction of the new Government, including plans for greater investment in housing and infrastructure, further devolution to English regions and increased intervention in sectors such as utilities and public transport. With these ambitions likely to come at a significant cost, businesses will be watching closely to see how additional spending is funded and how financial markets respond.
The event schedule includes breakfast and networking from 9am, followed by the seminar and Q&A session from 10am until 11am. Further networking opportunities will be available after the presentation.
The free-to-attend event offers local businesses the chance to gain valuable economic insight, ask questions and connect with fellow professionals in an informal setting.
