Council leader visits data centre firm’s Swindon site
Leader of Swindon Borough Council, Councillor Jim Robbins, welcomed major investment in Swindon’s digital infrastructure recently (29th January) when he visited nLighten’s Swindon data centre at South Marston Industrial Estate.
Councillor Robbins saw first-hand how the company’s investment is strengthening local digital infrastructure and how the Council and nLighten can work together to support future growth and inward investment across the Borough.
Data centres are highly secure buildings that store computer servers and networking equipment, allowing businesses and organisations to safely store data and run essential online services such as websites, email, cloud applications and digital communications. Data centres help ensure these services are fast, reliable and available around the clock.
nLighten plans to invest up to £10m in its Swindon data centre, including significant upgrades to the facility, enhanced security, modernised technology and future expansion to provide greater connectivity options. These developments will help ensure local organisations can access modern digital services close to home, rather than relying on infrastructure located further afield.
Councillor Robbins, Leader of Swindon Borough Council, said, “It’s encouraging to see companies like nLighten investing in Swindon. This kind of infrastructure underpins everything from local businesses and jobs to public services and economic growth.
“Having a modern data centre in the Borough strengthens Swindon’s position as a place where businesses can grow and innovate. This is particularly important as we continue our work to encourage new companies to bring their operations here and boost our growing and successful local economy.”
