As temperatures continue to plunge below freezing, Salisbury-based ALABARÉ is once again opening its doors to rough sleepers across the county.
Offering them a warm bed, a hot meal, and most importantly the hope of a new life, the charity operates across the South and South West of England and Wales, running multiple services and supported housing projects.
This week, both BBC and ITV visited ALABARÉ to see firsthand how the charity is breaking the cycle of homelessness thanks to the generosity of its supporters.
Justin’s story – A lifeline in the cold
Justin spent several months rough sleeping in Salisbury’s Culver Street Car Park. The cold, damp weather led to him contracting pneumonia. After being discharged from hospital, Justin was referred to ALABARÉ for an emergency bedspace.
Today, Justin has a room of his own at ALABARÉ Place and is rebuilding his confidence and his life.

Ian’s story – From homelessness to homebuilder
Just 12 months ago, Ian Bayliss was homeless. He came to ALABARÉ through the emergency bedspaces, unsure of what the future held.
Today, Ian has moved into a home he helped build through ALABARÉ’s Veteran Self-Build Scheme. Over the past year, he has gained valuable construction skills and secured full-time employment – an example of how ALABARÉ provides more than just shelter. The charity creates homes, restores hearts, and empowers minds.
